NEW OCC WEB SITE:
The Ontario Chamber of Commerce is continuing to enhance its online presence. Their site, http://www.occ.on.ca/ has a new look, new features, links and content as well as a new site map for fast and easy navigation to the various sections. The expanded content includes a corporate members’ directory, a section on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and a complete listing of the OCC’s board of directors, including biographies. There is also a section for your comments and suggestions.

AGING DEMOGRAPHICS AND ITS IMPACT ON H.R. POLICY
Canada’s aging population will have a profound effect on the make-up and needs of our workforce. Looming labour shortages in most sectors will add exponentially to today’s search for talent. Governments and employers will be striving to increase productivity and emphasize innovation. Increasing competition for skilled labour in other countries, and particularly in the U.S. may exacerbate this labour shortage in Canada. A presentation, focusing on this issue from a Human Resources perspective, is being held on Wednesday June 18th at the Mississauga Convention Centre. The cost is $40.00 to attend, including breakfast, refreshments and parking. If you are interested in attending, please phone our office for more details and the registration form.

Summer is almost here - the perfect time to get together with friends and family for BBQs, pool parties, etc. However if you are going to drink, remember to have a designated driver or call a cab. With new measures in place, here is an example of the minimum costs to an impaired driver:
Criminal Code Fine.............. $600.00
Remedial Measures Program.$475.00
License Reinstatement Fee.... $100.00
Increase in Insurance Costs*$9000.00
*$3000.00 per year over 3 years, minimum increase based on a perfect 6 star driving record.
Ignition Interlock .................$1500.00
(Installation Only)
Court Costs ............. $2000 - $10000
These costs do not even factor in the additional expense and hassle for you to obtain transportation - Remember, your license is suspended for one year after your first offence.
