E.I. PREMIUM RATE REVIEW:
Canadians can participate in the EI premium rate review process. The Government of Canada has announced that it will undertake a review of how EI premium rates are set. The review process will provide Canadians with the opportunity to express their views. The Government’s objective is to develop a more transparent and sustainable process for setting EI contribution rates.
Interested parties can provide submissions to the Government of Canada until June 30, 2003. For more information on how to submit your comments, please click on http://www.fin.gc.ca/activty/

CONTROLLING YOUR ESTATE:
Community Care and Victoria Estate Planning Council invite you to attend a “Controlling Your Estate” Workshop. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 27 from 12:00 to 3:30. Lunch is provided. There will be a panel discussion, estate planning tips and special guest speakers. Topics include; Cottage Succession, Duties of the Executor, Charitable Giving and Funeral Planning. The workshop will take place at Christ Church Anglican in Bobcaygeon. Please RSVP by May 20th to 324-7323.

TEMPORARY RST EXEMPTION:
On April 30, 2003 the Ontario Legislature passed legislation to exempt from RST (Retail Sales Tax) all transient accommodation and admissions to places of amusement throughout the Province of Ontario provided after April 30, 2003 and before October 1, 2003. Please phone 1-877-482-9329 or visit www.trd.fin.gov.on.ca for full details or call our office and we will fax you a copy of the information notice.

BUSINESS DIRECTORY PUT ON HOLD:
Due to the economy, apprehension about the upcoming tourist season and considering the quality of the 2002 directory and its long shelf-life, the Kawartha Lakes Associated Chambers of Commerce 2003 directory project will be postponed. This will result in an improved directory for 2004 which will serve our collective members even better.
Thank-you to all of those who pledged their support and to Promotion, Marketing and Design for their design work to date. Watch for news about the resumption of the project.
